Don’t Look Back in Anger

If you were a fan of Oasis during your teenage years, like I was, besides reminding ourselves not to skip our blood pressure meds at night, there’s some massive news: Oasis will reunite.

Oasis became one of the biggest British rock bands in the ’90s, turning into a cultural phenomenon. Their music wasn’t just popular in the UK but spread across Europe and other parts of the world. With their catchy songs and relatable lyrics, they became symbols of youth, rebellion, and working-class pride. Their concerts in Europe were huge events, pulling in thousands of fans from everywhere and making Oasis one of the most important bands of their time.

The most notable and central Oasis members were the Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam. Their relationship was rocky from the start, with constant public fights and explosive behavior. This all came to a final blow in August 2009 when the band broke up just before a concert in Paris. Noel said he couldn’t handle working with Liam anymore because of his violent outbursts, so he decided to leave the band for good.

I’m wondering if their rocky relationship shows up in their astrological charts. What do their charts say about them? We have precise birth info for Liam, but not for Noel. Let’s look at what strikes the eye in Liam’s horoscope:

Liam Gallagher, 21/9/72, 12:58pm,
Burnage, United Kingdom

Liam’s temperament is choleric, meaning his essence is primarily shaped by the fire element, which is linked to action and impulsiveness. Choleric individuals are always ready to draw their spear and launch an attack. They aren’t like Sanguines who will think things through before acting or Phlegmatics who will take a big step back.

The element of fire is closely related to Mars, the planet associated with conflict, aggression, and violence. In Liam’s horoscope, Mars is in an exceptionally challenging position: peregrine, causing him to unleash his aggression everywhere. The malefic Mars will reveal its worst and most ferocious nature. However, due to the combustion, this might not be immediately noticeable. This weak Mars conjuncts the MC of public behavior and career, making its aggressive presence strongly manifested not only in career matters but also in his life in general. Mars is the ruler of both the 5th house of creativity and the 12th house of self-destruction. This explains, in part, his creative success while also bringing forth violent transgressions.

In his chart, one of the things affected by this problematic Mars is Saturn, through the aspect it forms with him. Saturn is the ruler of the 3rd house of siblings, signifying Noel. Saturn conjuncts Bellatrix, the “Female Warrior”, a fixed star located in the constellation Orion. This position focuses a martial, combative energy in relation to the siblings. With Saturn, L3, Noel himself, located in the 7th house of open enemies, it clearly defines Noel’s role in Liam’s life as a presence of opposition.

If you look more closely at his horoscope, you will identify a significant issue. This is the relationship between L1, which symbolizes Liam, and L7, which symbolizes the way he relates to those around him. The relationship between Jupiter and Mercury is extremely problematic, as they are not only connected by a square aspect which points to tensions but also by a mutual negative reception—each is in the detriment of the other. This indicates a particular friction between Liam and the “rest of the world”, highlighting his intensely conflicted relationships.

Since we don’t have an exact birth time for Noel, we can work with an approximate horoscope, where the Sun is placed in the Midheaven. However, this approach will exclude time-sensitive factors such as house cusps, planetary house placements, and the 7 Arabic Parts. Let’s see what the planets have to tell us as symbols.

Noel Gallagher, 29/5/67
(Sun on MC Horoscope)
Manchester, England

The traditional ruler of brothers is Mars (while Venus rules sisters). In Noel’s case, Mars is also in a tough spot, being in a sign where it’s weak (detriment). Given Mars’ difficult placement, the brother could be very unpleasant in Noel’s life. To make things worse, through its antiscia, Mars opposes Pluto, which is linked to the myth of Persephone’s sudden abduction and assault. This creates a picture where the unpleasant “brother” is associated with sudden attacks.
