Finally! The Sun enters the sign of Aries!
During its journey through Pisces, the Sun, the life-giving planet, has been peregrine. However, with its transition into Aries on March 20, the Sun becomes essentially powerful, as Aries is the sign of its exaltation. This means that throughout its stay in Aries, the Sun will know how to fulfill its solar roles and act on them whenever the opportunity arises.
The entry of the Sun into Aries marks the Spring Equinox and signals the arrival of spring, and thus the beginning of a new cycle.
Before we explore the characteristics of the Sun in its exaltation sign, it’s useful to understand why the natural significator of the center and ruler of all finds its exaltation in Mars’ sign. Aries is a hot and dry (choleric) sign that belongs to the cardinal axis, representing the initial impulse needed for the start of a new cycle. Aries symbolically represents the ram, which is sacrificed for liberation from past constraints and ultimately for the beginning of a new life. The symbolism of the ram is found in both the Old and New Testaments, where its blood, a symbol of life, is used for liberation from sin and the old cycle, marking the start of a new cycle that brings us closer to the divine. The Sun is the natural significator of God, and through the sign of Aries, it is given the opportunity to do what it does best: inhale life into all things.
Regardless of whether the Sun has essential dignity or is in essential debility, it symbolizes authority and leadership—it represents those who rule. In its exaltation, the Sun knows how to lead and embodies an honorable, just, and prudent leader.
As the natural significator of abundance and vitality, the Sun in Mars’ sign breathes life into new beginnings. In this case, when it comes to the Sun, what shines is truly gold. As the all-seeing, all-knowing natural significator of light (the right eye in men and the left eye in women), the Sun in its exaltation provides clarity of vision, both literally and metaphorically, casting away shadows and darkness.
The Sun in exaltation offers courage and strength. The Sun is the natural ruler of centers; its symbolism—a dot representing the seed of life within a circle expressing wholeness—reflects the concept of the self at the core of all things. As the natural significator of the centers, it signifies the brain and the heart, the two most vital centers of the body, and in its exaltation, it reveals a “strong heart.”
As the Sun transits through Aries, marking the transition from winter to spring, this period will be ideal for shedding old situations and entering a new cycle. New beginnings will be favored especially if they are bold (the Sun is ruled by Mars). This will be a favorable time to connect to masculine energy and all kinds of centers. It is an ideal period to invite light into our lives by casting out dark thoughts.
During the Sun’s exaltation, it is a favored time to engage with anything related to power, either through individuals or positions. The Sun, beyond its association with figures of authority, also governs the father or paternal symbols (during the day). During its exaltation, we can focus on anything related to the paternal figure, such as connecting with our father or a fatherly symbol in our lives.
As the natural significator of Truth and sincerity, this is a great opportunity to express honesty, generosity, and faith. Anything related to the eyes (right eye in men and left eye in women), the heart, and the brain/CNS will be favored during this period – for example it would be a great time to take advice from a cardiologist (the doctor of the heart).
The planetary energy of the Sun, through its antipathy, is an excellent tool in traditional medical astrology against depression, a saturnine disease. Therefore, expose yourself (with the necessary protection) to the Sun’s light while Sun is in its exaltation, in Aries, and let those dark thoughts go away.
Since Mercury and Venus will also be in Aries during that period and in close proximity to the Sun, both Mercury and Venus will be “burned” by it. This is an extremely unfavorable situation, the most difficult for a planet, called Combustion. Combustion diminishes the light of a planet that is too close to the Sun, as if the planet disappears from visibility. Combustion is more unfavorable when the Sun and the combusted planet are applying to each other, rather than separating, and also depends on the sign both planets are in. So, during the very early degrees of Aries, as Mercury and Venus move retrograde back toward Pisces, both will be combust. This will make matters related to mental (Mercury) and unity (Venus) activities less favorable at that time.
However, on the 22nd and 24th of March, Venus and Mercury, respectively, will be in the heart of the Sun, a situation known as Cazimi. This is an excellent position where the planets radiate their essence, being at the heart of the Sun. It’s a highly favorable condition that boosts the planets, making them unstoppable. While Cazimi has a short time window, whether the boost is positive or negative depends on the essential strength of the planet in Cazimi.
Certainly, the conjunction of the Sun and Venus, representing the masculine and feminine archetypes merging into one, will be an ideal moment for romantic passion and setting the bed on fire.
